In a bold move reinforcing its commitment to quality and transparency, Skills’ Edge International Persistent Identifier (SEIPID) has discontinued 67 journals that failed to meet the minimum compliance standards outlined in its Best Practices Framework.

This decisive action comes as part of SEIPID’s ongoing effort to maintain a credible and globally trusted ecosystem for research publication and academic indexing. The announcement was made by the SEIPID Secretariat under the protocol of the Xpertno Research Center (XRC), which oversees the initiative through its parent units, Expert Novice Group.

Why the Discontinuation?

The 67 journals were removed after multiple notifications, follow-ups, and evaluation audits conducted over the past two months. The core reasons cited include:

  • Failure to implement transparent peer-review mechanisms
  • Lack of editorial board verification and affiliation proof
  • Unethical or cloned publishing practices
  • Non-submission of verification reports and updates within the given deadline
  • Misuse or inactive usage of SEIPID metadata integration

“SEIPID was never meant to be a badge without value. It's a symbol of ethical publishing and a commitment to truth in scholarship,” said Nasir Razzaq, Founder and CEO of Expert Novice Group and the convenor of SEIPID.

“We take our responsibility seriously. Journals that treat SEIPID like a decorative stamp without practising any real academic integrity cannot be part of our vision.”

What Journals Must Do Now

The SEIPID administration clarified that all registered journals must complete the quarterly compliance verification process, which includes:

  • Updated editorial board records with institutional affiliations
  • Transparent and verifiable peer-review evidence
  • DOI/SEIPID metadata submission audit trail
  • Anti-plagiarism policy enforcement report
  • Author and reviewer feedback surveys

A strict timeline of 30 days for correction will apply to any journal that fails to submit these for review.

Anmol Husain, acting CEO of Expert Novice Group, issued a public message:

"We deeply value the trust researchers place in SEIPID. We cannot allow that trust to be compromised by a few non-serious or unethical journals. While our doors remain open for guidance and growth, our standards will not be diluted. This is a move not of exclusion, but of elevation."

A New Era of Accountability

The decision was backed by various educationists and research professionals, who applauded SEIPID for standing firm on its principles. In contrast to other indexing services that often operate on pay-to-list models, SEIPID offers a low-cost yearly subscription, along with a free plan with limited access, aiming to democratize access while ensuring rigorous control.

Dr. Salma, assistant professor at Air University and an academic ambassador for SEIPID, commented:

“We must preserve the sanctity of research. This is not just about technology or tags—it’s about building a system where global credibility is earned, not bought.”

What’s Next for SEIPID

  • The second version (SEI-2.0) is scheduled for launch on August 15, 2025, with enhanced tools for live citation tracking, real-time review dashboards, and author verification systems.
  • Registered journals will soon have access to training sessions and compliance webinars to improve their practices and ensure continued recognition.
  • A permanent blacklist of discontinued journals will be published on the official website to avoid misuse of the SEIPID logo or metadata.

The SEIPID team advises all active journals to review their dashboards, respond to pending tasks, and regularly update their compliance documents to avoid future actions. A formal reapplication process will be opened for discontinued journals after six months, based on strict evaluation.
